BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 13-year-old girl escaped from an attempted kidnapping after a man thought she was a prostitute he recently purchased oral sex from.
According to the probable cause report from the Baton Rouge Police Department, 41-year-old Claude Lamonte Mason approached the 13-year-old girl in the area of E. Brookstown around 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 4.
Reports say he exposed himself to the girl and repeatedly told the girl to "look at it." Mason then tried to pull the girl toward a nearby vehicle. The child pulled away, and as she was running, Mason snatched the girl's cell phone out of her hand.
The child then ran down the street where she told residents and a nearby police officer what happened. She was able to point out Mason, who began to run away. Police found Mason hiding under a house on Bank Street, where he was later removed and taken into custody.
The police report says Mason admitted to exposing himself because he thought the child was a prostitute he recently purchased oral sex from, and he stole her cellphone because he believed it was the prostitute's phone.
Mason was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted kidnapping, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and simple robbery. No bond has been set.
