BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said they have arrested a man accused of kidnapping a man from his apartment on New Year's Day, beating him and then throwing him out of a vehicle while it was still moving, but they are still looking for two other suspects in the case.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Eldin Rodriguez, 19, of Baton Rouge, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:
Deputies said the victim is hospitalized after suffering several injuries. Those included a partially collapsed lung, possible vertebrae fractures, deep forehead gash and road rash over much of his body. His condition is not known.
According to the probable cause report, detectives were called out to an apartment on GSRI Avenue to investigate a home invasion complaint and learned Rodriguez, armed with a handgun, and two men barged into the apartment.
The report added the suspects stole three cell phones from the victim and his roommate before taking the victim away at gunpoint.
Investigators reported the victim was driven to another location, beaten with a bat and then dumped out of a vehicle. It is believed the vehicle was moving at the time because of the road rash injuries the victim suffered.
Detectives said the victim's roommate and other witnesses led them to Rodriguez. They added he admitted to being with two men who kidnapped the victim, but denied being involved with it or the beating.
Deputies have not yet identified the other two suspects.
The investigation is ongoing.
