BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A woman is recovering after she says she was mugged in a grocery store parking lot Monday.

The victim had to get stitches in her arm after she says a man tried to snatch her purse and ended up dragging her on the ground outside the Albertson's on Essen Lane in Baton Rouge.

She added her instinct kicked in when the man started attacking her and that everyone who heard her screams ran to help.

"I started screaming and hollering and drawing attention to what was going on, hoping that he would freak out and would just go away," the woman said. "Unfortunately, he didn't. But what did happen is the shoppers that were in the parking lot, everybody helped. Several men and women jumped in their vehicles and tried to chase him down. Other people tried to chase him down on foot, so everybody that was here was so helpful."

The Baton Rouge Police Department released a surveillance image of the suspect.

Anyone with information that could help identify him is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
