BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police are searching for a suspect accused of luring a 7-year-old from a park and sexually assaulted her.

The incident happened on Saturday, Dec. 13 after the Gus Young Christmas parade. Police say a man lured the girl over, grabbed her and forced her into his vehicle. Police reports say she was taken to an unknown location where he sexually assaulted her.

People who live nearby are filled with worry.

Earl Bell and his kids were outside on Monday enjoying a break from their rigorous work and school routines. Bell said, in his home, safety comes first.

"I try to keep a close eye on my children," Bell said.

He is watching them especially close after word from Baton Rouge Police of the crime.

Bell lives across the street from the park.

"I have a nine year old right here, and I'm very afraid for her right now," Bell said.

A surveillance camera at the park picked up a gold or tan-colored 4-door car leaving the park. Detectives said it appears to be a Nissan Maxima with possible damage to the back bumper on the driver's side.

Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Mary Ann Godawa said detectives want to talk to the driver.

"We think that it is possible it was involved. We want to locate the vehicle and then we have some questions when we do," Godawa said.

Godawa says the seven year old is back in her family's care, but Bell and other parents who live near the park said they are going to be on the lookout for anything suspicious.

"Now every time I see a car that symbolizes that car, I'm going to be looking. We need to get this guy off the streets," Bell said.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6-feet tall, medium to heavyset build, and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the assault.

The suspect was possibly driving a gold or tan 4-door Nissan Maxima. The vehicle possibly has a dent on the driver's side rear bumper.

If anyone has information about this crime, they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867).
