BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Department brought a little piece of the North Pole to Louisiana.
Over 200 off-duty deputies gave 1,200 kids requested gifts from the Sheriff's Department. That's 400 less than last year. Deputies hope that this is a sign that people are doing better this year.
The program, started in 1988, is a way for local agencies to donate and deliver holiday gifts to children in need.
Their squad cars may not be as flashy as a sleigh pulled by reindeer, and the deputies may not be as nimble as Ole Saint Nick, but for the boys and girls in blue, the best thing they get is the sight of a child's face lighting up at Christmas time.
