Additional arrest made in Shampine case

WALKER, LA (WAFB) - Walker Police announced that they have arrested a person who they believe helped Dennis Shampaine escape arrest last month.

According to a release from Walker PD, Charity Bailey, 35, was questioned during the search for Shampaine in October. According to the Walker PD, Bailey denied any contact with Shampaine.

However, when he was arrested in Beaumont, Texas on December 6th, Walker PD learned that not only had he been sending money to Bailey, she had visited Shampaine in Beaumont on at least one occasion.

The Walker PD says that they searched for Bailey in all of her known locations from Walker to Austin, Texas. When she was not found at any location, Walker Police called upon the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive task Force.

Bailey was found in Austin, Texas and could face federal prosecution due to her flight from authorities.

Captain John Sharp would not rule out the possibility of more arrests. Sharp stated that Shampaine might have had more help from people from other than Bailey.

“Ms. Bailey's decision to flee the State to avoid prosecution,” says Sharp, “exposes anyone who may have helped her.”
