BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A group of East Baton Rouge Parish Prison inmates received some special holiday cheer Friday. Inmates who have successfully completed certain classes to help them become better parents were rewarded with a special visit from their family.
This is the third year in a row for the "Christmas Toy Giveaway."
Some of the people who put this together say the look on the faces of the children who get to spend two short hours with parents who spend the rest of the year behind bars is priceless, and the inmates agree.
"It really just means a lot that I get to see them during the holidays, and that's like a dream," said inmate Sharifa Price.
"Man, this day means everything." said inmate Johnny Mitchell. "It's just a blessing from God that I'm able to spend time with my son. I've been here going on two years now and this is just a blessing from God."
About 30 inmates participated in Friday's event, which would not have been possible without the help of several area organizations.
