Traffic stop leads to arrest on meth charges

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a traffic stop on a man they considered to be driving recklessly resulted in his arrest on meth charges Thursday.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported Jessie James, 37, of Gonzales, was pulled over at the intersection of LA 44 and LA 42 near Prairieville by narcotics detectives. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on the following charges:

Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine

Careless operation

Failure to signal

Issuing worthless checks

His bond was set at $20,380.

Major Kevin Hanna with APSO said during the traffic stop, detectives discovered James had warrants for issuing worthless checks. He added a search of the vehicle turned up “a quantity of methamphetamine.”

He was still in jail as of Thursday night.
