BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Officers helped make sure the precious cargo being hauled by an 18-wheeler made it safely to its destination Thursday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department escorted the big rig, which was filled with food from Piggly Wiggly, as it made its way to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
Mayor Kip Holden said the giant haul would not have been possible without the help of the community.
"Normally, we go in to shop," Holden said. "They're bringing goods directly to the Baton Rouge Food Bank in order to make a difference. But, to all of us, we're saying we will stay united when it comes down to the Baton Rouge Food Bank because nobody should go without the food that they need to survive."
The food bank wants to remind everyone the need for donations goes beyond the holiday season.
