GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - The Gonzales City Council has filled its two vacancies, at least for the time being.
The council unanimously approved Barbara Duhe on Wednesday to fill the seat vacated by Timothy Vessel, who was recalled earlier this month.
The council also recommended David Guitreau to fill Gary Lacombe's seat. However, Gov. Bobby Jindal will have the final say in that one.
Mayor Barney Arceneaux said this is the first step toward the future of the city.
"Our goal all along was to move Gonzales forward and we've lost a couple major businesses along the way and I think these folks will come here and help us get our budget corrected and once again will help us with economic development," Arceneaux said.
Both Duhe and Guitreaux will serve until a special election is held in the spring.
Arceneaux added they've both told him they are not interested in the seats full-time.
