Baton Rouge Community College marked a milestone Wednesday, as it graduated its first class of machinists.
The ceremony was held in Jackson for the five men and one woman who completed the four-month long course that aims at filling industry jobs.
One of the graduates was just shy of finishing a 20-year nursing career before she decided to quit and take a chance at something new.
“Learning something new and different, instead of staying stagnant, is fun to me and I like that,” said Tanya.
BRCC works with workforce development leaders to help graduates get jobs when they finish the course.
Four of the graduates are already working in their field.
