Trial date set for suspect accused of killing a man when he fired shots at a group

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A trial date has been set for a man accused of pulling out a gun and firing at several people, killing one of them.

The murder and attempted murder trial of Brandon Hickerson, 34, of Baton Rouge, is scheduled to start on March 16, 2015.

He is suspected of shooting and killing Everett Collins, 31, also of Baton Rouge. The shooting happened in the 4500 block of Clayton Drive around midnight on April 11, 2011.

Investigators reported Hickerson, Collins and a group of friends were hanging out in front of Collins' home when Hickerson started arguing with a woman. Hickerson allegedly drew a handgun and shot at the woman, but Collins was hit instead.

Hickerson was arrested a short time later.

Hickerson is charged with one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
