Victim dies 3 months after shooting, murder suspect wanted

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man shot on Sept. 23, 2014 in the 200 block of W. Johnson Street has died from complications related to the shooting, according to East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William "Beau" Clark.

The victim, Cornell Cummings, 36, died on Nov. 30 at a nursing home where he was placed after being released from the hospital.

The shooting happened just before midnight on that day in September. When officers arrived, they found Cummings had been shot twice in his upper torso. He was rushed to the hospital with a life threatening injury and the Violent Crime Unit was notified and the investigation was turned over to detectives.

At this time police have no suspect or motive to release.

This is the 66th homicide in East Baton Rouge Parish this year. This incident happened in the 70802 zip code, making this the 19th victim for that area this year. At this same time last year, EBR Parish had 73 homicides on record.
