MAUREPAS, LA (WAFB) -

A restaurant in the small community of Maurepas could be bought out by the federal government.

The Livingston Parish Council is introducing an ordinance tonight to consider taking over the land currently owned by Val's Marina Restaurant.

The restaurant was put on FEMA's Severe Repetitive Loss list after flooding several times, most recently before and after Hurricane Isaac.

The parish says it plans to use federal funds to acquire the property and turn it into green space.

A final decision is expected sometime in January.
