BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Police have Crime Stoppers tips to thank for putting a man behind bars in connection to a shooting that left one man fighting for his life on Friday.
Court documents show 21-year-old Raynard O'Conner was arrested Wednesday after numerous calls were made to Crime Stoppers identifying O'Conner as the person responsible for shooting the victim.
The shooting happened on Callahan Street near the intersection of Greenwell Springs Road and North Lobdell. Reports say the victim was approached by an unknown person while he was standing outside of his home. The unknown person, now identified as O'Conner, shot the victim one time in the chest, according to police documents.
Reports say O'Conner ran off and dropped a loaded 30 round rifle magazine on the scene. The loaded rifle magazine and a single spent rifle shell casing were found at the scene of the crime.
The report states the victim had to have three major surgeries to repair the serious internal damage from the gunshot.
O'Conner was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder and his bond has been set at $200,000.
