BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Millions of people are planning to mail or ship items for the holiday season and the United States Postal Service says time is running out to make sure your delivery arrives in time for Christmas.
"We anticipate Monday [December 15] to be our busiest day of the season," said Baton Rouge Postmaster Larry Darsam. "That is coming off of a busy shopping weekend and if people want to mail a package or parcel product standard post, having it done by Monday would ensure an on-time Christmas delivery."
If choosing the first class or priority mail options, the deadline is a few days later. Darsam says those items, if mailed by Dec. 20, will arrive in time for Christmas. Darsam adds that priority express mail can be mailed by Dec. 23 and still make it in time for Christmas. Darsam says there are things customers can do ahead of time to help the process move more quickly.
"Make sure you have everything filled out to the fullest," he said. "If you come to the window and you need assistance, by all means we will assist, but the quicker we get you in the line, the quicker we can get you out."
Dates for other shipping companies vary. Companies like FedEx and UPS offer same-day delivery options through Dec. 24.
