BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Our Lady of the Lake revealed a new Children's Emergency Room and the newly expended adult ER on Tuesday.

Adults will enjoy more space and a fast-track option where they can get treated for minor injuries and illnesses in 90 minutes or less. The expanded space exceeds two football fields in size.

Pediatric patients will have a separate entrance and waiting area. More beds and nurses have been added, along with the equipment necessary for doctors to do x-rays and orthopedic procedures at the patient's bedside.

"We don't think that kids are little adults, we know that they're not little adults, they deserve their own specialized care and we can provide that here for them," said Pediatric Emergency Department Medical Director Ashley Saucier.

Part of that specialized care includes physicians and nurses specifically trained in pediatric emergency medicine as well as child life specialists on hand to provide distraction techniques.
