Deputies say man wanted for stealing golf clubs in Gonzales arrested in Houston

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators said they have arrested a man suspected of stealing golf clubs by shoving them down his pants leg.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported Richard Meissner, 69, of Houston, Texas, was arrested Thursday morning on theft charges.

Maj. Kevin Hanna with APSO said Meissner walked into the Pelican Pointe Golf Shop in Gonzales, put the clubs in his pants and left. He added Meissner returned later returned to take more clubs.

According to Hanna, Meissner stole four golf clubs worth $1,448.97.

Detectives said they identified Meissner as a suspect and later learned he was in the Texas area. The US Marshals Service arrested Meissner in Houston on Thursday. He was booked into the Harris County Jail and is awaiting extradition.

Officials added Meissner has an extensive criminal history that dates back to 1994. He has been arrested for theft, larceny, kidnapping, robbery and other charges.
