BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man who was shot by a police officer during a traffic stop has been formally charged with attempted murder and other crimes.
A grand jury indicted Derek Davis, 27, on the following charges:
The incident happened in August on Morning Glory Avenue in Baton Rouge, which is not far from the LSU Lakes. The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Davis was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving and arrested for DWI. Investigators said the suspect resisted arrest and a fight started between him and the officer.
Authorities said Davis tried to take the officer's gun "while also threatening his life." They added "fearing for his life," the officer was able to draw his weapon and shot Davis multiple times.
Davis was arrested in September after he got out of the hospital. At last check; he was still in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
