BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - "Educate to Elevate" sounds like a fancy name, but it simply means putting books in the hands of people who have time to read them.
"I ask the community to make book donations to this worthy cause," said East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux. "Rehabilitation of inmates is a win-win for all of us."
"I've already donated 97 books to this initiative," said Judge Trudy White. "Yes, from my personal library."
What a great idea. And, you can choose to donate any kind of book. Many have donated education books, but people are urged to also include some strictly for entertainment. They help to develop reading comprehension.
Books can be donated at any library branch in the parish. Look for a special box for the prison libraries.
