Police arrest attempted murder suspect following brief chase

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a man wanted for attempted murder is now behind bars, but not before leading police on a short chase Tuesday afternoon.

The Denham Springs Police Department reported an arrest warrant was issued for Skyler Woods, 30, in connection with a shooting, but when police tried to stop him in Walker, he drove off instead.

"One of our units was sitting on [US] 190 (in Walker) when he recognized Woods," said Glenn Lemoine with DSPD. "When we tried to stop him, he refused to stop. He continued into Baton Rouge and pulled into the driveway of a private residence. The chase ended on the back street of Montreal Street off of Stevendale [Road]."

Woods was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as a fugitive from justice. He will later be taken to Livingston Parish to face charges. Authorities said Woods was wanted for a shooting in Denham Springs on the morning of November 23.

"He opened fire on a vehicle with a shotgun. It happened at a home in Denham off MLK and Louise Street. As the vehicle backed out of the driveway, he opened fire. The car and struck the driver was hit in the face. The driver was not the intended target," Lemoine explained.

He said Woods has been arrested in the past and is currently on probation. He added the Baton Rouge Police Department assisted in the chase, which only lasted about 10 minutes.
