BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Some special children from in and around Baton Rouge are getting the chance to shop with a cop.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office is partnering with Target to bring Christmas gifts to 20 kids who were nominated by their school counselors.
"We're excited for our deputies to go with these kids, help them pick out toys, Christmas gifts - otherwise they may not have that this Christmas," said Casey Hicks with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. "And this year is a great way for us to really build that trust and develop a relationship with young people."
"It's very cool," said Amaya Brown. "I am glad my principal picked me because cops are very cool and I am glad for cops."
The Shop with a Cop program began as a way to build a positive relationship between law enforcement and children in the community.
