BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A federal judge sentenced a man to 13 years in prison for Medicare fraud, but his case is way bigger than many seen in Baton Rouge.

Through his Baton Rouge and Houston-based All-Star Medical Supplies, Ahoama Boniface Ohia, 60, of Missouri City, Texas, was convicted of fraudulently billing Medicare for items in his inventory.

According to court documents, Ohia tried to steal $2.2 million during a two-year period.

Officials said Ohia submitted, for instance, numerous claims for power wheelchairs. They said he falsely claimed to have replaced the wheelchairs that had been damaged or destroyed by a hurricane.
