DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Black Friday has ended and Cyber Monday is still a couple of days away, so those looking to find deals may want to take advantage of Small Business Saturday.
Ladena Wesley owns The Modern Attic consignment shop in Denham Springs. She said business can go from one extreme to the next.
"I could have one person walk in through here some days," Wesley said. "And other days [it's] 25 to 30."
The store contains racks full of new and second-hand clothing, which is sort of "the thing" at Antique Village, which features mom-and-pop shops selling timeless items.
On the eve of Small Business Saturday, Wesley said people spending at small shops in the area keep the clock ticking.
"It's how we pay the bills. And, it keeps the stores open around here. And, keeps the district growing," Wesley added.
Theater Antique is another small business in the area. Co-owner Elvin Watts said small businesses keep America running.
"Well, the small businesses are the backbone of America," Watts said. "They employ a lot of people. They keep a lot of old stores that might have been vacant."
Marilyn Wallace of Heritage House Antiques couldn't sum it up any better.
"I don't think any of the shops would be here without our local customers," Wallace said. "Within a 50-mile radius, including the Baton Rouge area, Tangipahoa area, New Orleans area, they support us by buying here."
The Antique Village will have a Christmas open house on Saturday for customers to catch some great deals.
