Troopers search for driver involved in hit and run that hospitalized road construction worker

GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities are looking for the driver of a vehicle that hit a road construction worker, leaving him badly injured.

Louisiana State Police reported Fredrick Mitchell, 38, of Baton Rouge, was hit in a construction zone on LA 30 near LA 73 in the Geismar area on November 21 around 11:45 p.m. Mitchell was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries.

Tpr. Jared Sandifer said the vehicle that hit Mitchell was traveling in a closed lane in the construction zone and drove off after the crash. He added it is believed a white or silver newer model Ford Mustang may have been the type of vehicle involved.

Investigators reported the car may have damage on the driver's side and is possibly missing its left side mirror.

Troopers stated witnesses told them the driver may have been a man and there may have been a woman in the passenger seat.
