BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - For holiday shoppers planning to take advantage of Cyber Monday deals, there are a few things to remember when making purchases online.
To protect your personal information, only shop on secure websites. Look for "https" in the web address. The "s" means your data will be secure.
Do your research. Lots of companies slash prices on items that are soon to be reduced.
Also, beware of anything free. There are lots of free offers on the internet this time of year that are just trying to mine your information for advertisers and spammers.
"Before you click through, when you're looking at the link, make sure it's going to a company that you know about - Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart - a place like that," said Josh Henderson, a technology expert. "If the spelling is off a little bit, sometimes they try to catch you like that. There's a notorious one that's Best Byee with two 'Es,' and it's a scam website that looks to collect your info and sell it to advertisers."
Remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
