GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A Gonzales city councilman facing a recall election has called it quits.
9News Investigators confirmed that Councilman Gary Lacombe resigned Tuesday afternoon.
Lacombe consistently butted heads with Mayor Barney Arceneaux over budget issues.
Calls to Lacombe were not returned. However, Arceneaux issued a comment via phone about Lacombe's resignation.
"This city has been through a tough time the last couple of years," Arceneaux said. "I believe this is a necessary step toward resolving our issues and moving the city forward again. This is a good first step for us and the second step would be to continue with the recall of Councilman Vessel and move this city forward."
Arceneaux referred to Councilman Timothy Vessel, a second city councilman who is also campaigning to keep his job. He is up against the recall election set for December 6.
