Following a nationwide backlash, the village of Moreauville is reversing a ban of Pit Bulls and Rottweilers.
An alderman in the village says residents no longer have a December 1st deadline to get rid of the dogs. Under the ban, citizens were to give up their dogs for “disposition” (
The December 1st deadline is not being enforced, but the ban will remain in effect until the Moreauville Council can meet).
The family who pleaded for the ban to be lifted uses their Pit bull ‘Zeus' as a therapy dog for their daughter, O'hara Owens, who uses a halo brace and a wheelchair for severe neck problems.
Alderman Penn Lemoine said the ordinance was created to appease several residents, but the Ownes family says that nobody has ever complained to them about their dog, nor has the dog bitten anyone.
The reverse comes after a petition against the ban received over 250,000 signatures and nationwide media attention.
