BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge Firefighters battled a blaze in the 3600 block of Clayton Dr., which is just off of Plank Road. The fire started just before 10 a.m.
Officials say the cause of this fire looks to have been an electrical malfunction.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire coming from the side and rear of the house. Firefighters went in through the front door to attack the fire.
The family of 12 who rents this address was not home at the time of the fire. The home received heavy fire and smoke damage.
Officials with the Baton Rouge Fire Department say the house is 75 percent destroyed. Red Cross was called to assist the family.
Firefighters also responded to a fire on Chippewa, off Plank Road. It happened around 5:30 a.m., just a couple of miles away from the fire that sparked on Clayton Dr.
It took firefighters about 40 minutes to put out the fire. Reports say they had to pry burglar bars off of the windows to get into the house.
Officials say the cause of the fire is from a pot left on the stove unattended, however, no one was home at the time of the fire. The house received heavy fire and smoke damage.
Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents of the home.
