BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

There are now 34 new officers patrolling the streets of Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department graduated the 80th Basic Training Academy on Monday after cadets completed the more than 20 weeks of training that tests officers both mentally and physically.

There are 23 officers scheduled to retire in 2015, so the graduates will replenish the police force.

"We've experienced a lot of challenging training opportunities," said Tyon Robinson, a new police officer. "Everything was as realistic as possible and this is just the end all. It's a great occasion and everybody is happy and everybody is excited about the future."

BRPD is budgeted for two classes next year, which will add 60 new officers by the end of 2015.
