GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - An Ascension Parish Judge denied a request by former Mayor of Sorrento, Wilson Longanecker, Jr., to have his jail bond reduced.

Judge Jessie LeBlanc denied the request after hearing a detailed description of the videos a cybercrimes investigator said she found on a laptop computer seized from Longanecker's home.

Investigators from three different agencies searched Longanecker's home in October. Kurt Wall with the Office of the Louisiana Attorney General said enough evidence was found to arrest him.

Wilson Longanecker, Jr., the ex-Sorrento mayor, is facing 40 counts of child porn and one count of obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors with the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office described the videos authorities seized from the former mayor of Sorrento's home as "vile and horrendous."

Judge Jessie LeBlanc decided his bond should remain at $1,025,000. Longanecker's attorney, Tim Pujol, was trying to get it dropped to $100,000. Longanecker's father, Wilson Senior, testified it would be the only way he could afford to help his son make bail.

Longanecker arrived to court in a prison transport bus filled with inmates. He was arrested at his home on October 23, 2014 after state attorney general investigators said they found enough evidence to arrest him on 40 counts of child pornography and one count of obstruction for allegedly trying to hide his computer hard drive.

An investigator with the Attorney General's Cyber Crimes Unit testified she found pornographic videos of children under the age of 13 downloaded to Longanecker's hard drive.

Assistant District Attorney, Robin O'Bannon, gave a detailed description of the evidence in court stating the majority of the videos involved females, some as young as three years old.

"I think that the wave of evidence of what was on the video that was presented in court today show that these children are being seriously abused, and I don't think there should be a market for that kind of consumerism," O'Bannon said.

The age of the children was especially concerning to prosecutors who pointed out Longanecker is married and has three young children.

The Ascension Parish District Attorney's Office filed a bill of information on Monday morning charging Longanecker with 43 counts of possessing child pornography for the videos.

"Once they finish the forensics on the computer, that may change and we are going to proceed accordingly," O”Bannon said.

Pujol declined an interview with reporters.

"No comment. I'm sorry," Pujol said.

Longanecker is scheduled to be back in court for an arraignment on December 15, 2014.

If convicted as charged, he faces up to 20 years in prison on each count of child pornography and obstruction of justice; which in this case, could be 800 years.

Longanecker was elected mayor of Sorrento in 2011 and served until 2013.
