BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A celebration took place in Downtown Baton Rouge Thursday morning. The Salvation Army kicked off its Red Kettle campaign, inviting you to adopt children from the angel tree for Christmas.
The event featured the McKinley Middle Magnet School Mustang Choir.
Miss Louisiana took the first angel card off the tree. The cards represent real children who, without your help, may not be getting a gift for Christmas.
The red kettles are the Salvation Army's major fundraiser for its vast spectrum of community services; from feeding the hungry, to emergency services after floods or hurricanes, to addiction rehab, to help for the poor.
You can find Angel Trees at any Capital One Bank Branch and participating Wal-Mart stores. Businesses and community organizations may ask for their own tree of Angels by calling the Salvation Army at 225-355-4483
