Investigators arrest suspect on arson charge after business fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Fire investigators, with the assistance of Baton Rouge Police officers, arrested one suspect and named another in connection with an arson at a business from October 30.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported Ernest Richardson, 29, was booked on a charge of simple arson for a fire that happened at Custom Designs on North Foster Drive. Authorities said an arrest warrant has been issued for Larry Parker, 28. He is also wanted for simple arson. The fire caused about $5,000 worth of damage.

Curt Monte with BRFD said two suspects were caught on surveillance video and that witnesses identified the truck they were in, which matches one Richardson owns.

He also said the video shows one suspect using a ladder from the truck to climb onto the building, while the other man acted as a look-out. Monte added the suspects were seen lighting what looked like cloth and setting the building on fire.

According to Monte, witnesses said the two men had been to the business several times over the past couple of years.

Anyone with information about Parker's whereabouts is asked to call arson investigators at 354-1419.
