Apartment fire destroys one unit and damages 13 others

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A fire at an apartment complex completely destroyed one unit and damaged 13 other units.

It happened in an upstairs apartment at 1219 Marque Ann Drive in Baton Rouge about 5 p.m. Wednesday evening. Officials say it was caused when someone was cooking and left the stove unattended, resulting in $200,000 worth of damage.

Ten of the apartments were occupied. The other units received smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross is assisting residents.
