BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two veterans were given the keys to their own set of wheels Tuesday.
Progressive Insurance gathered all the people from the collision centers and auto body council members who helped refurbish two cars for two deserving veterans. As the women were called up to receive their "Keys to Progress," each took turns fighting tears.
When the covers were removed, there stood a 2008 Honda Accord LXP and a 2012 Chevy Malibu. The pair hugged in teary celebration, knowing how these cars will help.
"This is my 'Highway to Heaven,'" said Ruby Parker, a US Army veteran. "This is going to help me because I can find a job now. I can go, be able to commute back and forth from Hammond to wherever."
The other veteran, Dimeka Perkins, is a security guard at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. She said the car will help her travel with her children.
