PORT HUDSON, LA (WAFB) - Hundreds of people in the Baton Rouge area paid tribute on Veterans Day Tuesday.

People packed the Old State Capitol for the USS Kidd Veterans Day celebration. Bag pipes filled the air as people reflected on the many who fought for their freedom.

Others went to several Veteran cemeteries including the Port Hudson National Cemetery. Jordan Quinn's was out saying hello to his grandfather, Sgt. James Quinn Jr, who served in the Vietnam War.

"He inspired me to do ROTC," said Quinn. "I just feel like it's our duty for us to serve. I just want to be a great leader like him really."

Quinn also explained that millions of people died for our way of life.

"Someone paid the ultimate sacrifice for us," he said "Everyone out at this cemetery paid the ultimate sacrifice for us and a lot of our freedom is because of them."
