LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) - Authorities are still searching for Dennis Shampine a convicted sex offender who has been on the run for a month.

Shampine is wanted for battery, robbery, and failure to register as a sex offender. Detectives said he was last spotted in the woods near the Amite and Comite rivers. Cpt. John Sharp said there are many reasons why authorities have not caught him yet.

"He spent quite awhile in the swamp near the Amite and Comite River which is 500 acres and it's easy to get lost there," said Sharp. "We believe that he has friends and family who are sheltering him and it's also a possibility that he has left the area."

Sharp explained people should be concerned but not afraid.

"Shampine hasn't ever attacked anybody that he didn't know and hasn't shown any violence towards anyone other than the police," said Sharp.

If you have any idea where Shampine is, please call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
