GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a woman accused of stealing her sister's tax return money.

The Gonzales Police Department reported Myrtle Brown, 40, is wanted for felony identity theft and unauthorized use of an access card. Police don't have an address for her, but family members believe she is living in the Baton Rouge area. Authorities said she could also be in Ascension Parish.

Detectives said she “intercepted” her sister's mail in March and stole the bank card that contained more than $1,700 in federal tax return money. They added Brown then went on a five-day spending spree.

They said she drained all of the money on the card, mainly at ATMs and casinos. Investigators reported Brown was identified as a suspect from ATM surveillance video.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
