PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - Officials say a second person has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another injured on Oct. 27 in Port Allen.

Ronald Nolan, 20, was booked on several charges including principal to first degree murder. Last week, 19-year-old Javonte Morgan was arrested.

The Port Allen Police Department says 30-year-old Major Carter of Baton Rouge died on the way to the hospital after the shooting on Tracy Porter Street just after 9:30 p.m. A second victim, 25-year-old Ashton Taylor of Baton Rouge was also shot, but the wound is not considered life-threatening.

Port Allen Police Chief Esdrin Brown said Taylor was shot first and when Carter ran, the gunman, now identified as Morgan, fired more shots and hit one of the victims in the back.

Chief Esdrin says the victims went to the location to buy drugs and Morgan tried to rob them. Both suspects are being held in the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
