Police hold annual 'Safety Day'

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Hundreds of families were out Saturday afternoon to support the seventh annual Louisiana State Police Safety Day.

Kids were out in Halloween costumes, playing games, and eating lots of candy, but Tpr. Jared Sandifer said that given the crash the agency worked last night there is an important meaning.

Eleven children were rushed to a Baton Rouge Hospital after a four-wheeler, pulling a hay ride, was hit by a car on Cane Market Rd in Walker, LA.  Detectives said the children suffered only minor injuries, while an adult involved in the crash was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Police say the driver of the four-wheeler and the car were both issued tickets.

"It was all about having fun, but people need to remember that the roadways are a dangerous place we need to be very careful while we are out there and we need to always stay vigilant," said Sandifer.
