PINEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A 16-year-old student has been arrested after setting fire to his Pineville school late last week.
According to the state Fire Marshal, Pineville firefighters arrived at the J.S. Slocum Learning Center where they found the smoldering remains of the gymnasium's stage curtains. Officials say that there was minimal damage to the school's structure.
Investigators found two butane lighters in a nearby trash receptacle, as well as two locations near the fire's origin where someone had attempted to set additional fires.
Fire Marshal investigators were able to interview a suspect, leading to a complete account of his actions, and a confession to the crime.
The student is now being held in the Renaissance Home for Juveniles in Alexandria.
