BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The words, "A shooter on the loose in the Mall of Louisiana," were heard over the scanners late Thursday night, but fortunately, it was part of a drill.
The Baton Rouge Police Department spent most of the night training in case officers ever have to respond to an active shooter in the mall.
With the mall's recent annexation into city limits, this is new territory for the department. These drills are essential in preparation.
"You never wish that this happens in real life, but just in case it would, we want to be as best prepared as we can to protect the public," said Cpl. Don Coppola with BRPD.
He added the upcoming holiday season means a lot more people at the mall, so this training couldn't have been done at a better time.
