BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A series of public hearings have been scheduled for the public to weigh in on what road projects they would like to see become priorities for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).
A number of hearings are underway to discuss the Preliminary Highway Program for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. The Joint Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works is leading the public discussions, offering local leaders and residents the chance to hear what projects are in the works.
"You can ask anyone when you stop at the RaceTrak or the Wal-Mart. They're stopped there too, waiting to get on the bridge, so I hope that is a priority as you're looking at those things. And I'm thankful for the parish looking on the west side of the bridge, which would be helpful," said Addis resident John Alexander.
The meetings will be held throughout the state and will focus on projects and priorities in each area.
DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas added, "Since Governor Jindal took office in January 2008, an unprecedented $6.5 billion has been invested to improve Louisiana's infrastructure. This investment amounts to over 2,800 projects to repair approximately 7,800 miles of roadway and 450 bridges. Input received during the hearings will help guide the department on what projects to develop in the years to come."
