BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a man accused of forcing his infant child to keep a pacifier in its mouth and violently shaking the infant and was arrested on a cruelty charge.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Justin May, 26, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a felony cruelty to juveniles charge Monday night. His bond was set at $6,500.
According to the probable cause report, the mother told detectives the incident happened on October 6 around 6 a.m. She claimed they were asleep when the infant started to cry and that May went to check on it.
The mother reportedly also said he was "trying to force the child to suck on its pacifier," while it was still in its crib but that the baby kept spitting it out. The report indicates she also said she saw May grab the infant around the face tightly and stick the pacifier in its mouth.
She reportedly also claimed May put his hand over the baby's mouth to stop it from spitting out the pacifier. The report stated she also accused him of violently shaking the baby's head from side to side. She reportedly told investigators he then took the infant out of the crib and violently shook it up and down.
According to the report, it was at that point that the woman hit May in the back, told him to give her the child and ordered him to leave the house.
