Police say suspect shoots 2 during drug deal, leaving 1 dead

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - Police said they are looking for a killer after a deadly shooting Monday night.

The Port Allen Police Department reported Major Carter, 30, of Baton Rouge, died on the way to the hospital. Investigators added Ashton Taylor, 25, of Baton Rouge, was also shot, but the wound is not considered life-threatening.

Authorities said the shooting happened on Tracy Porter Street around 9:38 p.m. Port Allen Police Chief Esdrin Brown said the victims went to the location to buy drugs and the suspect tried to rob them. He added Taylor was shot first and when Carter ran, the gunman fired more shots and one of them hit him in the back.

Detectives have not yet identified a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
