SORRENTO, LA (WAFB) -

Bond has been set for a former mayor arrested on more than three dozen child porn possession counts.

Officials with the Ascension Parish Jail reported bond for former Sorrento Mayor Wilson Longanecker Jr. is set at $1,025,000. He is charged with 40 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of obstruction of justice.

The Office of the Louisiana Attorney General said detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, the Office of Homeland Security and the Louisiana State Police went to Longanecker's house early Thursday morning to execute a search warrant. Kurt Wall with the AG's Office said all three agencies were there as part of a cybercrimes investigation. He added Longanecker did not cooperate.

Wall said officers found enough evidence to arrest Longanecker on charges of possessing pornography involving juveniles. He added Longanecker is accused of trying to hide the evidence, which led to the obstruction of justice charge

Longanecker is charged with violating a state law forbidding a person to produce, distribute, possess, or possess with the intent to distribute pornography involving juveniles. If convicted as charged, he faces up to 20 years in prison on each count of child pornography and obstruction of justice; which in this case, could be 800 years.

Longanecker was elected mayor of Sorrento in 2011 and served until 2013.
