BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - No. 23 LSU rallied late against No. 3 Ole Miss to get the 10-7 win in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night.
It was another classic LSU and Ole Miss rivalry game, reminiscent of those contests in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Freshman running back Leonard Fournette finished with 113 yards on 20 carries. On one of those runs on the game-winning drive, his facemask was ripped off. The Tigers ran the ball 12 times and chewed up 92 yards before quarterback Anthony Jennings found senior tight end Logan Stokes for the 3-yard touchdown pass that erased a 7-3 Ole Miss lead. The scoring play put the Tigers up 10-7 with 5:07 remaining in the game.
Ole Miss had its chances to re-take the lead, but the Rebels' attempt to quick snap the ball on 4th down and two yards to go backfired as the Tiger defense mauled the play and got the stop.
Then, Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace and the Rebels moved into scoring position in the final minute, but let the clock run down on what would have been a 42-yard field goal attempt to tie it and go to overtime. Ole Miss then decided to go for a 3rd and seven with :09 remaining, but senior safety Ronald Martin of White Castle made the interception and the upset was sealed. Wallace completed 14 of his 33 passes for 176 yards.
Senior running backs Terrence Magee and Kenny Hilliard each carried the ball 12 times. Magee finished with 74 yards, while Hilliard ran for 63.
