Troopers: Motorcyclist dies after going off hwy and crashing through fence

MAUREPAS, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Police said a motorcyclist died after losing control and crashing through a fence Friday evening.

Troopers identified the victim as James Geter, 46, of Maurepas. They said the wreck happened on LA 22 east of LA 16 near Maurepas shortly before 6 p.m.

Tpr. Jared Sandifer said the preliminary investigation showed Geter was headed east on LA 22 on a 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle when he went off the road just before a curve. He added the motorcycle went through a fence and stopped in a field.

Investigators reported Geter was wearing a helmet, but suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to North Oaks Hospital in Livingston where he died from his injuries.

Per protocol for deadly crashes on Louisiana highways, a sample of blood was taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
