BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals announced Friday there were five new cases of West Nile virus in Louisiana this week, but there were no new deaths.
One of those was in Pointe Coupee Parish. DHH said it presented as fever. A case in Caddo Parish was the only one presented as neuroinvasive disease. The other fever cases were in Bossier and Orleans parishes.
Health officials also issued a reminder to football fans to not let down their guard while they are outdoors tailgating and attending games.
They said even though the temperatures have dropped recently, being outside can still mean exposure to mosquitos that could carry the West Nile virus. They urge fans to wear long sleeves and pants and to use mosquito repellent when outside.
