BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Better, proactive safety measures are now in place for this year's Greater Baton Rouge State Fair.

A deadly shooting moments after the fair closed one night last November led to safety concerns. The alleged gunman, Keithdrick Pier, is still in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison awaiting trial.

Organizers said the fair is one place guns are not welcome.

"We've had to increase our security at the front gates; we will be wanding people," said Cliff Barton with GBRSF. "This is a BREC facility and they have a policy of no weapons allowed and we will enforce that policy and we hope people understand that this will be a minimum inconvenience for a major fun event."

The fair will be open Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and then Saturdays and Sundays, the fair opens at noon and closes at 10 p.m.
